Finish Off Islanders
Fort
Wayne, IN – The Dons were behind by 13 points with
just over six minutes left in the contest when four unanswered
points by Kelly Boyd brought life back to the Dons as they
overcame the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi with
a final score of 63-62.
This was the second time this season that the Dons faced
the TAMUCC. Earlier this year, on January 24, the Islanders
defeated the Dons 80-57. The Dons came out firing in the
first and held an 8 point lead at the half.
The Islander fought back in the second and had a 13 point
lead with just over six minutes left in the second. At the
four minute mark the Dons fought back hard and scored 11
unanswered points to come within one of the Islanders. The
Dons finished hard with a jumper and free throw made by Johnna
Lewis-Carlisle to defeat the Islanders.
Freshman Johnna Lewis-Carlisle (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay)
led the Dons once again with 18 points for the afternoon.
Lewis-Carlisle also added three boards, an assist and a block
for the contest.
Sophomore Hilary
O’Connell (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) had six boards
and nine points and senior Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH/Euclid) had
five boards and eight points for the afternoon.
Four Islanders were in double figures for the afternoon, Lindsey
Van Dorn recorded 18 points, Jackie Ododa had 11, and Terra Andrews
and Kirbria Lewis each put away 10.
The Dons are on the road this Tuesday at the University of Illinois.
Their final game of the season is Saturday February 26 versus
Texas Pan American starting at 1 pm.
