O’Connell Hits for 24 in Win Over Panthers

Fort Wayne, IN – The Dons were coming off a ten game losing streak when the Panthers of Wisconsin Milwaukee came to town with an 11-10 record. The Dons took off early and never looked back finishing the first with an 11 point lead. Although the Panthers hit more in the second, the Dons were able to keep them at bay, finishing the game 70-65.

The Dons were led by sophomore Hilary O’Connell (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw) with 24 points. She was 9 of 17 from the field, 6 were from beyond the arc. O’Connell also recorded five boards, two assists and two steals for the evening.

Three other Dons finished in double figures for the evening. Sophomore Ashley Johnson (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) had 11 points and was 3 of 4 from the field and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. Senior Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH/Euclid) had 11 points and 7 boards for the evening. Freshman Johnna Lewis-Carlisle (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay) recorded 10 points to go along with her three boards, seven assists and two steals.

For the Panthers, Kimberly Becker and Nichole Drummond each had 19 points. Drummond finished the evening with seven boards while Becker had six.

The Dons are at home next Thursday (Feb. 17) against the Longwood Lancers starting at 7 pm. Texas A&M Corpus Christi comes to town on the 21st with a start time of 1 pm.
