Johnson Lands Three in Final Second for Win

Indianapolis, IN – The Mastodons traveled to Indianapolis for the second time this week but this time returned with a win in the final second of the game against IUPUI for a final score of 70-69. This is the second win this season for the Dons.

Sophomore Ashley Johnson (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) hit from beyond the arc with 0.3 seconds remaining to give the Dons a one point lead from a steal by sophomore Hilary O'Connell (Warsaw, IN/Warsaw).

The Dons were 12 of 26 from beyond the arc for the game. O'Connell hit four and finished with 14 points. Sophomore Molly Martin (Terre Haute, IN/Noblesville) came from the bench though and scored 16 points, also hitting four from beyond the arc.

Defensively, senior Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH/Euclid) and O'Connell each had seven boards and were followed by junior Kelly Boyd (North Judson, IN/San Pierre) with six. Johnson recorded three steals and four other teammates had two steals each.

For the Jaguars Karima Davies had 17 points and was followed closely by Brooke McAfee with 16. McAfee led defensively with 10 boards.

The Mastodons are on the road next week at Northern Colorado on December 30th and at Utah on New Years Day. Their next home game is Wednesday January 5 versus Detroit at the Memorial Coliseum with a 6:00 p.m. start time.
