Lewis-Carlisle Zips Past Akron

Fort Wayne, IN – The Zips of the University of Akron were no match for the Dons Thursday afternoon at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center. The Dons recorded their first win of the season with a final score of 77-68.

Freshman Johnna Lewis-Carlisle (Lexington, KY/Henry Clay) led the Dons with 26 points and three steals. Senior Courtney Nicley (Lebanon, IN/Western Boone) followed up Lewis-Carlisle with 15 points. Sophomore Ashley Johnson (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) chipped in 11 points as well as three steals.

Defensively, senior Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH/Euclid) had 7 rebounds and was followed by sophomore Starla Williams (Lindenhurst, IL/Anitoch) with 4 boards.

The Dons had a 12 point lead at the half, but with nine lead changes, the Dons pulled ahead and finished the game with a 9 point lead.

For Akron, Angie Hutchinson had 16 points. She was followed by Courtney Stewart with 10. Hutchinson and Lindsay Hemmelgarn finished the afternoon with 8 rebounds each.

IPFW’s next home game is Monday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center versus the Musketeers of Xavier University.
