Women's Basketball Still Searching for "W"

St. Louis, MO- They finally got the start they had been looking for, but couldn't hold on late. The IPFW women's basketball team dropped a close one to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, in the first round of the Saint Louis Coca Cola Classic, 70-64.

Plagued by slow starts so far this year, IPFW jumped on top of the Trojans quickly, getting out to an eight point lead on a fast-break layup from freshman guard Ashley Johnson.

The Mastodons held that cushion until UALR began to make a run with about five minutes left in the first half. Tamara Humphry's layup gave the Trojans their first lead of the half, and they would go into half-time up by two at 34-32.

The Trojans opened up a nine point lead, with ten minutes to go in the game, on a jumper by Jocelyn Love, making it 51-42.

IPFW would make another run, and a pair of baskets by junior center Verea Bibbs gave the 'Dons a two point lead with just over four minutes remaining.

After tying the game for the ninth time, UALR would finish it off with the game's final five points, sending the Mastodons to 0-4, and a date with Stony Brook in Saturday night's Consolation game.

Bibbs had a monster game for IPFW, registering a double-double with 19 points and 23 rebounds.

Junior guard Courtney Nicley chipped in 16 points on 8-15 shooting, and senior guard Maggie Bruening added ten.

Arkansas-Little Rock featured four players in double figures. Alicia Cash tossed in 16, while Love had fifteen.

Once again, IPFW will face Stony Brook tonight at 6pm in the consolation match of the Coca Cola Classic. Host Saint Louis dispatched the Sea Wolves by the final of 71-62.
