IPFW Women Fall to Kentucky in Opener

Lexington, KY- Led by senior center SeSe Helm’s ninth career double-double, the Kentucky Wildcats downed IPFW 79-59 in the Mastodons’ season opener in Lexington, KY.

Helm tossed in 20 points and hauled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Wilcats.

UK used a tough pressure defense and a raucous crowd to force 27 ‘Don turnovers in the game. “We turned the ball over early, and I think that had to do with some early gitters,” head coach Bruce Patterson said. “But, once we settled down, we played nose to nose with them and gave a good effort.” “What can you say, they are an SEC team, and the SEC is the best women’s basketball conference in the country.”

The Mastodons were led by junior guard Courtney Nicley (Lebanon, IN), who scored 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting.

Senior forward Amy Gearalds (Beach Grove, IN) added 14 points, and freshman guard Leisha Walker (Indianapolis, IN) added eleven.

The win was the first in the Kentucky coaching career for Micki DeMoss.

The Mastodons (0-1) will continue their Kentucky swing on Sunday (11/23) with a 2pm contest at Louisville.
