Lady
Broncs Edge Mastodons
Fort
Wayne, IN- In a game of runs and comebacks, the University
of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs had just enough down the stretch
to top IPFW 75-72, Saturday afternoon at the Gates Center.
UTPA reeled of the first run jumping out to a 10 point lead,
with eight minutes to go in the first half, on a three-pointer
from Amanda Carlow. But, the Mastodons outscored UTPA 27-10 from
that point on to take a 42-35 lead at the half.
IPFW (7-13) increased that lead to eleven before the Lady Broncs
began to chip away. A triple by Mary DeCock at the nine-minute
mark gave UTPA a two point lead, and set the stage for a tight
game the rest of the game.
The Mastodons cut the Pan American lead to just one (73-72)
on a free throw from Verea Bibbs with 23-seconds left, but Carlow
hit a pair of freebies to give the Lady Broncs their 9th win
of the season (9-12).
Bibbs led the ‘Dons offensive effort with 17 points. She also
grabbed 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Three other Mastodons also scored in doubles, with Maggie
Bruening hitting 12, and Geneva
Murdock and Amy Gearlds chipping in ten
each.
Carlow led the Lady Broncs with a game-high 19 points.
The Mastodons'
next game is Wednesday night (2/4), hosting Texas A&M Corpus
Christi at the Gates Center. Game time is 7pm.
