Gearlds Moves to 3rd All-Time in Loss to UTPA

Edinburg, TX- Senior forward Amy Gearlds has now moved into 3rd place on the All-Time career scoring list in IPFW women’s basketball history. Gearlds scored 11 points in IPFW’s 80-55 loss at the University of Texas-Pan American on Thursday night.

Gearlds’ total of 1,533 points moves her ahead of Robin Scott (1,527) who played for the Mastodons from 1987-91. Gearlds stands behind only Lindy Jones (2,107/’92-‘96) and current Carroll High School girls basketball coach Lisa McBride (Miller) (2,358/’88-‘92).

It was a cold shooting night for the ‘Dons who hit only 5 of 24 attempts in the first half, and finished the evening shooting only 26% from the floor.

Junior center Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH) was the only other Mastodon to record double figures, with twelve.

The Lady Broncs (12-13) were led by Molly Schamel’s 18 points. Three other Broncs hit for double-figures.

The Mastodons (7-18) will now try to snap their six game losing streak Saturday afternoon, at the Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The ‘Dons lost a close 75-72 game to the Islanders, at the Gates Center, on January 31st. Game time is 4pm
