Islanders Hold Off ‘Dons

Fort Wayne, IN- In a very close game at the Hilliard Gates Center on Wednesday night, it was the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi holding off IPFW 76-68.

In a game that featured seven ties and numerous lead changes, TAMUCC hit their free-throws down the stretch to send the Mastodons to their second consecutive loss.

The Islanders (15-8) led at the half by one, after trailing by as many as eleven.

In the second half, IPFW (7-14) took a one-point lead on a three-pointer by Geneva Murdock (So/F/Fort Wayne, IN) at the eight-minute mark, but that was the last lead the ‘Dons would own.

TAMUCC got a game high 23 points from Terra Andrews. Anna Hartzell and Monica Pena each added sixteen. Forward Jackie Ododa pulled down a game-high 19 rebounds for the Islanders.

IPFW was led by Verea Bibbs (Jr/C/Euclid, OH) with sixteen points. She was joined in double-figures by Murdock with eleven, and Courtney Nicley (Jr/G/Lebanon, IN) and Amy Gearlds (Sr/F/Beech Grove, IN) with ten.

IPFW returns to action on Saturday evening (2/7) at the Gates Center, hosting Illinois-Chicago at 7pm.
