Islanders
Hold Off ‘Dons
Fort
Wayne, IN- In a very close game at the Hilliard Gates
Center on Wednesday night, it was the Islanders of Texas A&M
Corpus Christi holding off IPFW 76-68.
In a game that featured seven ties and numerous lead changes,
TAMUCC hit their free-throws down the stretch to send the Mastodons
to their second consecutive loss.
The Islanders (15-8) led at the half by one, after trailing
by as many as eleven.
In the second half, IPFW (7-14) took a one-point lead on a three-pointer
by Geneva Murdock (So/F/Fort Wayne, IN) at the eight-minute mark,
but that was the last lead the ‘Dons would own.
TAMUCC got a game high 23 points from Terra Andrews. Anna Hartzell
and Monica Pena each added sixteen. Forward Jackie Ododa pulled
down a game-high 19 rebounds for the Islanders.
IPFW was led by Verea
Bibbs (Jr/C/Euclid, OH) with sixteen points.
She was joined in double-figures by Murdock with eleven, and
Courtney Nicley (Jr/G/Lebanon, IN) and Amy Gearlds (Sr/F/Beech
Grove, IN) with ten.
IPFW returns to action on Saturday evening (2/7) at the Gates
Center, hosting Illinois-Chicago at 7pm.
