Bibbs Rings in “New Year” with Twice the Fun

Fort Wayne, IN-Junior center Verea Bibbs (Euclid, OH) picked the last day of the year to have her best game of the season. Bibbs’ double-double of 27 points and 19 rebounds helped lead IPFW to a 78-72 win over Murray State, Wednesday afternoon at the Gates Center.

The first half of the game saw seven lead changes and eight ties, with the Racers taking a 32-31 lead at the half.

In the second half, Bibbs took over. She scored sixteen of her game high twenty-seven with tough moves inside.

But, the game was still in doubt with just over two minutes left. Maggie Bruening’s layup with 2:32 left on the clock gave the Mastodons a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Four ‘Dons scored in double figures. Courtney Nicley (Jr/G/Lebanon, IN) had thirteen, Senior forward Amy Gearlds (Beech Grove, IN) netted twelve, and forward Jenny Green (So/Lansing, MI) chipped in eleven.

Bruening (Sr/G/Fort Wayne, IN) was a point shy of double digits with nine.

The Racers were led by the inside trio of Angela Mullins (14), Stacy Holmes (12), and Lori Trumblee (11).

Murray State out-shot IPFW 44.9% to 40.3%, but the Mastodons topped the Racers on the boards 44-35.

IPFW will return to action on Monday night (1/5), hosting Morehead State at the Gates Center.
