IL- The IPFW men's volleyball team notched its first
MIVA win on Wednesday night, knocking off defending NCAA Champion
Lewis University 3-1.
The Mastodons
(3-1, 1-0) topped the Flyers by the scores of 37-35, 30-25, 29-31,
and 31-29.
Led by free-swinging
right outside hitter Matt Zbyszewski, the 'Dons
shook off Saturday night's loss to Penn State in fine fashion.
Zbyszewski registered his first double-double of the season with
26 kills and 11 digs. He also assisted on six blocks in the match.
Mitch
Dreisbach (Jr/OH/Mishawaka,
IN) had a great night on the left side, putting down 18 kills
of his own.
Sophomore
middle hitter Serdar Sikca (Istanbul, Turkey)
also registered double digit kills in the middle with ten.
Junior setter
Dennis Santiago (Bayamon, Puerto Rico recored
56 assist.
IPFW outhit
Lewis .314 to .231 in the match.
With the loss,
Lewis falls to 2-5, 0-1 in conference play.
The Mastodons,
who have gotten some top 15 votes in the AVCA national poll, should
finally crack the top 15 next week with this win.
