U.S. Men’s Volleyball Spikes Russian Federation

Daegu, South Korea- After being manhandled in the opening two sets of their Quarter Final match with the Russian Federation, the United States men’s volleyball team finally found their “A” and outlasted the Russians in five sets to advance to the Semi-Finals of the World University Games in South Korea.

The Russian Federation opened a two-sets-to-none lead with wins of 25-14 and 25-23.

But, the U.S. totally controlled the third and fourth sets, winning easily by the identical scores of 25-16.

The fifth and deciding set was a walk in the park for the Americans, winning 15-7.

IPFW Head Coach Arnie Ball’s team will now take on the Republic of Korea in the Semi Finals.

Korea stopped Germany 3-1.

The other Semi Final will feature France and Japan.

The French outlasted Turkey 15-13 in the fifth set.

Japan made it into the Semi Finals with a 3-1 win over Canada.

The Semi-Finals of the World University games are set for Friday, with the Finals being held on Sunday.
