USA Reaches Medal Round

Daegu, South Korea- Head Coach Arnie Ball’s United States men’s volleyball team streaked into the Round of 8 at the World University Games, with an easy three set blanking of D.P.R. Korea on Tuesday.

The U.S. squad got off to a slow start in the first, allowing the Koreans to hang around. They would, however, go on to post a 25-23 first-set win. Team U.S.A. kicked it in to high gear after that, rolling to easy 25-14 and 25-15 wins in the final two stanzas.

With the win, the U.S. advances to the medal round. They will face the Russian Federation on Thursday. The Russian Federation advanced to the Round of 8 without dropping a match. Their victims include Japan, Portugal, Hong Kong, and China.

The United States’ enters the Medal Round with a 3-1 record. Their only blemish was a four-game loss to Denmark.

Joining the U.S. and the Russian Federation in the Round of 8 are France, Turkey, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea and Germany.

The Semi-Finals of the World University games are on Friday, with the Finals being held on Sunday.
