Tennis Team Earns All-Academic Honors
Fort
Wayne, IN-The Women’s Tennis Team has been awarded
All-Academic status for the 2002-2003 academic year by
the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (“ITA”), the governing body for college
tennis. To qualify for All-Academic honors, a team must
have a cumulative team GPA for the year of 3.2 or better.
The women’s team finished the year with a cumulative GPA
of 3.45. Francesca Solari (Santiago, Chile), Jill Carie
(Washington, IN) and Beth Miller (Muncie, IN) were also
honored individually as “ITA Scholar-Athletes.”
IPFW’s
Men’s Team also garnered individual honors. Michael Chase
Jr. (Lenexa, KS) and Billy Ruxton (Muncie, IN) were two
of the 197 nationwide “ITA Scholar-Athletes” honored by
the ITA. In order to qualify for this award, student-athletes
must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
“These
awards are the highest academic honors for men’s and women’s
collegiate tennis. It is our goal every year to receive
the All-Academic team award. I am proud of everyone’s academic
achievements this past season and hope we can continue
to raise the bar in the future. It is a great honor to
receive these awards,” said IPFW Tennis Coach Eric Burns.
