Mastodons Sign Mickelson

Fort Wayne, IN- IPFW head softball coach Keith Fisher has announced the signing of Tara Mickelson for the 2007 season.

A Wheat Ridge, Colorado native, Mickelson will graduate from Wheat Ridge High in the spring. She currently holds a 3.6 GPA and is 55th in her class of 364.

On the field, Mickelson's primary position is catcher. Her high school team was the Jefferson County 5A League and Conference champions and came in second at state. She was named to the All-Colorado team as a utility player and All-State 1st Team as a catcher. She was also on the 1st team All-Conference as a catcher. Last year she had a .440 batting average and .560 slugging percentage with 22 RBIs. Mickelson has also been named a Scholar Athlete three years in a row.

In club, Mickelson played in 2004 on the Colorado Fear 16A team. She received numerous MVP awards and was an all star player. She batted a .534 with 42 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. In her 2005 season she moved up to the Colorado Stars Gold 18 team and excelled there as well. While at three positions, catcher, first base and outfield, Mickelson turned in a .463 batting average with 47 RBIs and 42 runs.
