'Dons Tab Two as Players of the Week

Brookings, SD - IPFW's Kacie Stone and Kayla Vargo were tabbed Independent Players of the Week for the week of March 20th as voted on by sports information directors.

Junior catcher Kacie Stone was named Independent Player of the Week. The Newburgh, Indiana native hit an impressive .833 last week as the 'Dons went 2-2.

Stone scored two runs with five hits and a double and an RBI last week. Against Wright State, she was 4-for-5, scoring two runs.

Others nominated for player of the week included: Sarah O'Neill, UC Davis; Grete Peterson, North Dakota State; and Kiley Schwedhelm, South Dakota State.

Freshman Kayla Vargo was named Newcomer of the Week. Vargo hit the game-winning home run in the eighth inning to win the game for the ‘Dons over Wright State as IPFW went 2-2 last week.

Overall, Vargo hit .500 with one homer and two doubles. She was 7-for-14 with an .857 slugging percentage and six RBIs.

Others nominated included: Kelly Cantrell, North Dakota State; and Julie Stauder, UC Davis.
