Mastodons Fall to Vikings

Cleveland, OH - The Mastodons began their Horizon League trip at Cleveland State with a loss, 9-1 in five innings at Viking Field.

The Mastodons lone run came in the third. Abby Liden reached on a fielding error and was moved to scoring position by a sac bunt and a fielder's choice. Kayla Vargo's single to second base brought in Liden.

Cleveland State posted nine runs in three different innings. In the first the Vikings brought in their first two runs after two errors by the 'Dons. In the fourth they added four runs off of four hits and added their final three in the fifth.

Katie Aspegren pitched 3.1 innings giving up three hits and five runs while striking out three. Jenna Connelly came in to finish the game giving up four runs on four hits. Aspegren received the loss.

Game two of today's double-header was called because of unplayable conditions.

The Mastodons return to action tomorrow, traveling to Butler for a 1pm double header with the Bulldogs.
