Mastodons Drop Two
Orlando, FL - IPFW Softball dropped their last two games at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Florida on Friday. The 'Dons were defeated by Tennessee State, 4-3 and Columbia, 8-3.
IPFW v. Tennessee State
IPFW made a late run, posting two runs in the seventh but left two runners on to fall to the Tigers, 4-3.
Tennessee State posted their first run in the first after two singles and a walk loaded the bases. A second walk brought in the run. The Tigers added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
The 'Dons got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after Abby Liden hit a double. She was brought in by Nancy Herron's single. IPFW entered the fifth down by one, 2-1.
The Tigers would post two more runs over the next three innings to take a 4-1 lead. IPFW wasn't going out without a fight and in the bottom of the seventh they posted two more runs.
Beatrice Pedraza hit a single and was moved by an error and a past ball to third. Kacie Stone sat on second when Liden hit a single to bring in two. IPFW had Liden on second and Kayla Vargo after she was walked when Tennessee State changed pitchers. A line out took the 'Dons out of the game, leaving two on.
Liden was 3-4 with one run and two RBIs. Stone finished 2-4 with one run. Jenna Connelly gave up 11 hits and four runs. She struck out six batters.
IPFW v. Columbia
In the nightcap, the 'Dons faced Columbia. Heavy scoring early on kept the Lions ahead, 8-3.
IPFW scored right off the bat in the first after just two batters. Angela Pasquali hit a single and Stone had a double to bring her in. The 'Dons would post another run in the second when Herron got on with a single and was moved around a sac bunt and an error to third before a past ball allowed her to run safely to home. The Mastodons were up 2-0 going into the bottom of the second.
The Lions posted five runs in the second on four hits. Then in the bottom of the third they added another three to take their lead to six, 8-2.
IPFW posted their final run in the sixth when Ty Lambert hit a single and was moved to second on a wild pitch. A double by Jessica Mast brought in Lambert.
Lambert finished 1-1 with one run. Herron was 1-2 with one run as well. Katie Aspegren pitched just 1.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits for the loss.
The 'Dons (1-15) will travel to IUPUI on the 21st for a doubleheader starting at 4 pm. IPFW's next home game is a doubleheader against Michigan State starting at 3 pm on the 22nd.
