IPFW Hits a Rough Patch at Games

Orlando, FL - IPFW hit a rough spot, taking four losses at the Rebel Games on Wednesday and Thursday. The Softball team fell to Creighton, UMKC, St. Joseph's University, and Monmouth.

IPFW v. Creighton
Creighton took off with a three run lead in the third. After two singles, a bunt and a walk, the Jays had their first run on the board and one in scoring position. A ground out would bring in the second run while a past ball would bring in the third.

IPFW put their lone run on the board in the sixth. Kacie Stone hit a single and was moved to second on a ground out by Natalie Clark. Two more singles hit by Abby Liden and Jenna Beachy would bring in Stone.

Creighton put two more up in the seventh and finished the game with the win, 5-1.

For the 'Dons, Stone, Liden and Beachy each went 1-3. Katie Aspegren pitched the entire game, taking the loss. She struck out seven while giving up five hits and five runs.

IPFW v. UMKC
IPFW faced UMKC in the nightcap on Wednesday. IPFW fell to UMKC, 2-1.

The Kangaroos would put their two runs up in the second and fifth.

UMKC's Casie Wolf, the second baseman, stopped two chances for the 'Dons in the fourth, but they managed to get one by her to score. Nancy Herron scored on an error by the centerfielder to cut the Kangaroos lead down to one.

Jenna Connelly struck out five batters while only giving up four hits in six innings. Stone, Clark, Beachy, Herron and Beatrice Pedraza each went 1-3.

IPFW v. St. Joseph's
On Thursday, the 'Dons started the day off with St. Joseph's. The Hawks breezed by the Mastodons, 4-0.

St. Joseph's was on the board early, posting a run in the second and third. The Hawks posted their four runs off of six hits and only two errors made by IPFW.

Clark received the loss, after pitching the first three innings. She struck out three while giving up four hits and two runs. Aspegren pitched the second half of the game, striking out five while only giving up three hits and two runs. Kayla Vargo and Beachy each went 1-3 in the loss.

IPFW v. Monmouth
IPFW faced Monmouth in the mid-morning game. The 'Dons tried to answer the Hawks scoring but couldn't, falling 7-3.

Monmouth started in the second, posting four runs on four hits. They added two more in the third, and one lone one in the seventh to give themselves a four run lead.

IPFW would post their first run in the second after Liden singled and a sac bunt by Stone moved her to second. A single through the left side by Beachy would move Liden into scoring position. Ashley Johnson's single brought in Liden to take the score to 4-1.

In the third, Pedraza singled and then stole second. She was brought in on an error by the second baseman, scoring for the 'Dons. A single and a wild pitch put Vargo on second and Liden was walked. After a pitching change Stone hit a double to bring in Vargo. IPFW was down 6-2 going into the fourth.

The next three innings were quiet until the Hawks posted their seventh run in the seventh.

Connelly gave up six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts to receive the loss after pitching just three innings. Aspegren gave up one hit, one run and struck out three. Beachy went 1-2 and Stone went 1-1 with one RBI.
