Stone Nationally Ranked, Vargo Tabbed as POW
Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW Softball's Kayla Vargo and Kacie Stone were honored this week for their performances on the field. Stone is currently nationally ranked in doubles per game while Vargo received her second Newcomer of the Week nod from the Independents.

Stone is currently ranked 12th in the nation in doubles per game with 0.38. So far this season Stone has hit 15 doubles and currently holds a .338 batting average. She currently leads the Mastodons in runs scored (19), doubles, and total bases (65). Stone is second on the team in hits with 41. Ebony Stevenson of Jackson State is the current top ranked player with an average of 0.53 doubles per game.
Vargo hit .368 last week as the 'Dons went 2-4. In 19 at-bats she recorded seven hits, including two home runs and two doubles, while driving in seven runs and scoring two. Vargo finished the week with a .789 slugging percentage and did not commit an error in the field.

Vargo's first home run of the week, which came against Valparaiso in the first inning of Game 2 of a doubleheader, gave the Mastodons a 2-0 lead. IPFW went on to win 4-3.
In the nitecap of the Dayton series, Vargo hit her second first-inning home run of the week, giving the Mastodons a momentary 2-0 lead in a 7-6 loss. Vargo was also honored as the Division I Independent Newcomer of the Week on March 29.
