Mastodons Knock Off Jaguars

Indianapolis, IN - The Mastodons doubleheader may have turned into a single game, but the 'Dons outlasted the IUPUI Jaguars in nine innings, 3-1.

The Mastodons were on the board first after Jenna Beachy singled up the middle in the fourth. Two walks later the bases were loaded and a third freebie allowed Beachy to cruise on in, taking a 1-0 lead

The Jaguars posted a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at one. The Mastodons weren't done, posting two runs in the top of the ninth to take a 3-1 lead. The Jaguars couldn't answer back as IPFW took the win, 3-1.

Abby Liden and Beachy each went 2-4 with one run scored each. Beachy brought in one in the ninth.

Katie Aspegren took the win after coming in to close for Natalie Clark. In her four innings, Aspegren gave up just one hit while walking two and striking out four. Clark pitched five innings, giving up four hits and a run. She struck out three while walking two.

Game two was canceled after game one was postponed from the original 4 pm start time to 5:30 pm due to miscommunication with officials.

The Mastodons will face Valparaiso for their third doubleheader with the Crusaders this year on Thursday. Game time is 3 pm.
