Hoosiers' Rally Late, Ending Game Early for 'Dons

Bloomington, IN - The Mastodons fought hard, but a late rally by the Hoosiers ended the game early during the sixth inning Tuesday afternoon at the IU Softball Field. The Hoosiers defeated IPFW 11-3.

The Hoosiers scored early and hard, posting six runs in the bottom of the first. Nancy Herron would score in the top of the third but IU wasn't done, bringing in one more in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mastodons would begin to make a run, bringing in two more after the Hoosiers committed errors in the sixth. Kacie Stone and Jenna Beachy would come in by errors on the shortstop and left field. Indiana finished the game early though, after two errors allowed four runs to end the game in the bottom of the sixth with a final of 11-3.

Abby Liden, Kayla Vargo, Stone, Beachy and Herron each went 1-3 for the afternoon. Stone recorded the lone RBI for the 'Dons.

Overall the Mastodons scored three runs on five hits while committing six errors. The Hoosiers committed just three errors, scoring the 11 runs on 11 hits.

Katie Aspegren took the loss for the Mastodons. In four innings Aspegren gave up six runs on six hits and struck out two. Jenna Connelly came in to close, pitching 1.1 innings, five runs would come in, ending her stint early.

The Mastodons (8-27) will travel to IUPUI for a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 4 pm. Their next home series is April 20th against the Valparaiso Crusaders. Game time is 3 pm.
