Mastodons Sweep Falcons

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW took both games today against Notre Dame College in their first sweep of the season. The Mastodons won game one in five innings by a final of 14-6 and game two went regulation, ending with a final of 8-5 in favor of IPFW.

Although NDC would score early, it wasn't enough in game one. The Falcons were up 3-1 going into the bottom of the third when the Mastodon bats started to swing. The 'Dons added 13 runs in three innings to top the Falcons 16-4 in five innings.

Game two started off quite the same as the first with the Falcons on the board in the first. IPFW tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the first and let loose in the bottom of the second, taking a commanding 6-1 lead. Notre Dame College would fight back, adding four runs, but the 'Dons added two more to take the win, 8-5.

Jenna Beachy and Kacie Stone each hit a homerun for the afternoon. Stone's, in game one, brought in two other runners while Beachy's in game two cleared the bases.

For the series the Mastodons scored 22 runs on 22 hits, including five doubles and two homeruns. Ashley Johnson hit .800 after going 4-5 with five runs, a double and three RBIs. Abby Liden was 5-8 with four runs and RBIs while hitting .625.

On the mound, Jenna Connelly took the win in game one and the save in game two. Overall she only gave up three hits and one run while striking out five. Connelly finished the series with a 3.50 ERA. Natalie Clark took the win in the nightcap, posting a 2.10 ERA after giving up seven hits and five runs while striking out four. Katie Aspegren started game one, striking out five in 3.1 innings.

The Mastodons (7-25) will be on the road for their next three dates. This Saturday they will travel to Valparaiso for a doubleheader starting at noon. Their next home series is April 20th against the Crusaders. Game time is 3 pm.
