Vargo
Signs with IPFW
Fort
Wayne, IN- IPFW head softball coach Keith Fisher has announced
the signing of Kayla Vargo for the 2006 season.
Vargo, an
incoming freshman from Westville, IN, will give the Mastodons
some needed versatility. The 2005 graduate of Chesterton
High School can catch, play first, third, or the outfield.
Vargo's Lady
Trojans team was the first to win a 4A sectional title at
Chesterton since the 1994 season. The Trojans season ended
with a runner-up finish in regional action.
Vargo is
a three-time letterwinner, who was named All-Duneland Athletic
Conference in 2004 and 2005. She was also selected by the Times and
Post Tribune as a First-Team All-Area Selection. Vargo
earned third team All-State honors in both '04 and '05.
"Kayla is
the type of student-athlete that we desire here at IPFW," according
to Fisher. "Her ability to play a number of positions effectively
will give us tremendous defensive flexibility."
Vargo leaves
Chesterton High School with a career batting average of .367,
hitting .355 in 2005, while driving in 19 runs. She owns a
share of the school record for most game winning RBI's in a
season
with
six, and a the career record for doubles with nineteen.
