Mastodons Fall in OT
Fort
Wayne, IN- The IPFW men’s soccer team hosted Bowling
Green Friday night at the Hefner Soccer Fields. Regulation
couldn’t decide it, but an overtime goal by the Falcons lifted
BGSU to a 2-1 win.
In fact, Bowling Green scored all three goals in the match.
At the 11 minute mark of the first half, IPFW’s Craig
Vande Vusse (So/M/Kalamazoo, MI) lofted a long ball into the Bowling
Green box. The ball caromed off of the Falcons Paul Dhaliwal
and into the BGSU net. The “own-goal” gave the ‘Dons a 1-0
lead in the first half.
In the second half, the Falcons (4-5-2) tied it in the 62nd
minute. Senior midfielder Eric Duda assisted on a goal by freshman
midfielder Daniel Bartulovic.
It stayed tied after regulation, mostly due to the acrobatic
goal keeping of junior Peter Hachaj (Palatine, IL).
Hachaj made 13 saves in the match, two of them were unbelievable
stops of rebounds.
But, just three minutes into the overtime, Bowling Green’s
Dusty Snyder converted a header from an Adrian Akpan feed to
win the game.
With the loss, the Mastodons fall to 5-6-0 on the season.
They will travel to Macomb, IL on Monday (10/13) to take on
the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. Game time is 3pm.
