Men’s
Soccer Works Double-OT for Win
Indianapolis,
IN- It was a successful debut for the IPFW men’s
soccer team on Saturday at the IUPUI Classic in Indianapolis.
The Mastodons worked double-overtime for a 3-2 win over Centenary
(LA).
The Gents got the scoring started at the nine minute mark
with a goal by Felipe Pereira.
IPFW knotted the score at one just three minutes later as
senior midfielder Garrett Buck (Louisville, KY) lifted a corner
kick to the box, and sophomore defender Trevor Peaslee (Kalamazoo,
MI) headed it past Centenary netminder Stefan Nicola.
The Gents again took the lead in the second half, but freshman
midfielder Paul Otachel (River Grove, IL) tied it again at
two, in the 74th minute, with his first goal of the season.
After a scoreless overtime session, it was freshman midfielder
Barry Morgan (Dublin, Ireland) grabbing a loose rebound in
front and banging home the game winner, with just five minutes
left in the second overtime.
Junior Goalkeeper Peter
Hachaj (Palatine, IL) got the win
for the Mastodons, playing all 105 minutes in net.
The ‘Dons will next play IUPUI Sunday afternoon (8/31) at
