Wayne, IN--Day 1 of the 2003 IPFW Soccer Showcase saw plenty
of action and a few surprises.
Purdue

Butler 1
The
Boilermaker women controlled the match from the outset. Annette
Kent and Courtney Coppedge each tallied in the first half,
and Lori Arnold and Emily Whetter found the back of the net
in the second half for the easy win.
Kentucky

Indiana 1
This match was tied at 1-1 until the 89th minute.
Kentucky forward Nathan Li got loose and slammed home the
game winner with less than a minute left.

Ohio State 1
The Wildcat women's team made it a Friday night
sweep with a one-goal win over the Buckeyes. Kentucky forward
Heather Saas did all the damage with two goals for UK.
Michigan
State 1
Rutgers 1
Michigan State had the better of the play in the
first half. Kellen Kalso scored the only Spartan goal on
a penalty kick at 41:27. Rutgers tied the contest in the
80th minute on a Chris Karcz score. No overtime was played
in the exhibition match.
North
Carolina 4
Michigan

No
problem for the Lady Tar heels who scored early
and often. Not even an hour-long injury stoppage
could derail UNC. Anne Morrell scored two goals
and Alyssa Ramsey and Mary McDowell each had single
tallies.
Saturday
events at the showcase include the IPFW men's and women's
teams in action. The men take on Dayton at 3pm and the
women host Central Michigan at 5pm. The North Carolina
women face Ohio State in the nightcap at 7pm. Be sure to
attend the huge collegiate autograph session at 3:30pm.
All the college teams will be available to sign autographs
on FREE soccer balls from 3:30-5pm. Make
sure you stick around for half-time of the UNC-OSU match
for a special presentation to Indiana men's coach Jerry
Yeagley!
