Press Release NOVEMBER
26,
2004 Air Force Shoots Down IPFW in Simon’s Return Fort Wayne, IN- IPFW got senior center David Simon back for the first time this season, but it was the sharp shooting and smothering defense of the Air Force Academy that led the Falcons to a 58-40 win, Friday night at the Memorial Coliseum. Simon, (Vernon Hills, IL) seeing his first action since ACL surgery this summer, led the Mastodons in scoring with 12, but obviously was a bit rusty. Air Force showed a very disciplined offense throughout much of the game, taking a 29-15 lead at half-time, featuring a number of back-door layups off of motion. IPFW shot only 25-percent in the opening half. The Falcons (4-1) shot 45-percent for the game, and refused to let IPFW get any closer than 13 in the second half. Three Falcons registered double-figures in the game. Junior guard Antoine Hood tied Simon for game-high honors with twelve. Centers Caleb Buchanan and Nick Welch each tossed in ten, both hitting a pair of three-pointers. IPFW, (2-3) who has now out-rebounded four of their first five opponents (32-22), got eight from sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers (Flint, MI) and seven from junior forward Quintin Butler (Greenwood, SC). Next up for Air Force is a date with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, while IPFW travels to El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP. Game time is 7pm.
