Press Release NOVEMBER
4,
2004 Bauer Saves the Day Fort Wayne, IN – The IPFW Mastodons only led one time in the second half of their final exhibition game against Hillsdale College, on Thursday night at the Coliseum. But that lead came with 15-seconds left, and they held on to win 65-64. Sophomore guard Beau Bauer (Walton, IN) got a lay-up in traffic to go down, and with just four seconds left took a pivotal charge, to seal the win. The visiting Chargers held the lead for almost the entire game, including a 36-33 advantage at the half. They opened up their biggest lead of the second half at the 10:18 mark, on a three-point basket by junior guard Cory Coe, making it 51-44. But the Mastodons would claw back, led by Bauer and junior forward Quintin Butler (Greenwood, SC). Butler, who only had four points at the break, tossed in 12 in the second half, to keep it close, setting up Bauer’s heroics. Butler finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, for his second double-double in as many games. Bauer finished the night shooting 6-9 from the floor (3-4 from behind the arc) for a game-high 20 points. Sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers (Flint, MI) and freshman guard Jason Malone (Indianapolis, IN) each chipped in ten. Hillsdale was led by junior guard Rodney Whaley with 16 points. IPFW finishes exhibition play at 2-0, and they open the regular season on November 11th, in Memphis, Tennessee, against George Mason University in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Game time at the new FedEx Forum is 5:30pm Central.
