Big Second Half Lifts Weber State to Win

Ogden, UT – In a game that featured two of the top five scoring centers in the country, it was IPFW's David Simon winning the scoring battle, but Weber State's Lance Allred, and the rest of the Wildcats, winning the game, 60-47, Tuesday night at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.

Allred leads all Division-I centers in scoring at 17.8 points per game, while Simon is 5th in scoring at 15.1 points a contest.

Simon registered a game-high 17 points on the night, but it was a trio of Wildcats with fourteen, including Allred, that paced Weber State.

The Mastodons dressed only eight players for the game, and were forced to play a lot of zone defense. It worked well in the first half, as IPFW took a 25-24 lead at half.

But, in the second half, the Wildcats got hot, taking the lead for good at the 12:31 mark, out-scoring IPFW 27-15 the rest of the way, on 53-percent shooting. (Note: ESPN's ticker had the 'Dons leading 42-33 at the 11:50 minute mark of the second half which was a mistake).

Allred, once again, was part of a trio of Wildcats with 14 points, but he also led the game with 16 rebounds, helping WSU to a 42-21 advantage on the boards.

The only other Mastodon in double-figures was sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers who chipped in ten.

With the win, Weber State improves to 8-11, while IPFW falls to 4-16. The Mastodons continue their current six game road trip on Monday (1/31) in Edinburg, Texas, taking on UT-Pan American at 7pm.
