Press Release JANUARY
17, 2005 Turnovers Cost IPFW Kent, OH - Freshman forward Pete Campbell registered his first career double-double, scoring a career high 28 points and 10 rebounds, but the number IPFW couldn't overcome was twenty-four. That is how many times the Mastodons turned the ball over, losing to Kent State, 81-72 on Monday night. Foul trouble on senior center David Simon forced the Mastodons to play a perimeter game most of the evening, and on defense, allowed the Golden Flashes to get the ball inside for points in the paint. Leading 42-35 at half-time, Kent State used a 16-2 run to open up a 20-point lead. During that run, KSU capitalized on four straight trips up the floor where the 'Dons turned it over. To the Mastodons credit, they fought back hard. Campbell continued to light it up from behind the arc, finishing with seven triples. But, IPFW could only get as close as five late. Sophomore forward Scott Cutley led the Golden Flashes (11-6) with 22 points, on 8-9 shooting. He was one of four players in double figures for Kent State. Joining Campbell in double digits for the Mastodons (4-14) were sophomore Beau Bauer, (13) and sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers and Simon with ten. The loss drops the 'Dons to 4-14. The continue their six game road-trip on Saturday (1/22) at Utah Valley State. Game time is 7pm.
