IPFW Blows Out Youngstown State in Pechota’s Debut

Fort Wayne, IN – IPFW snapped an eight game losing streak, getting 21 points from freshman forward Pete Campbell, in a 79-59 rout of Youngstown State, Saturday afternoon at the Memorial Coliseum.

In the first game under interim head coach Joe Pechota, IPFW jumped out to a double-digit lead after nine minutes, and never looked back. Campbell (Muncie, IN) helped the Mastodons to a 43-24 half-time lead with eleven first-half points.

In the second half, IPFW opened up a 30-point lead on successive dunks by Quintin Carouthers (So/G/Flint, MI) and David Simon (Sr/C/Vernon Hills, IL). The Penguins (3-13) could only cut it back to 19 points, and never really threatened.

Campbell’s 21 was game-high. Simon added 17 points and eight rebounds. Carouthers finished the day with 12 points.

It was the first time all season that IPFW had shot better than 50-percent in a game. They finished hitting 56-percent of their attempts.

Youngstown State was led by Zach Silverman with 19 points.

With the win, IPFW improves to 4-13 on the season, and will travel to Kent, Ohio, to face Kent State University, Monday at 7pm.
