Kent State’s Prayer is Answered
Golden Flashes down IPFW on 40ft. Buzzer Beater

Fort Wayne, IN- Three seconds. That is all that stood between IPFW and an upset that would have put them firmly on the NCAA basketball radar. But, a 40ft. three point prayer by DeAndre Haynes hit nothing but net, sending a stunned Memorial Coliseum crowd to the doors, with a 67-66 Kent State win.

A fantastic matchup from the start, IPFW took a four point lead early on a triple from junior guard Terry Collins.

The score would go back and forth most of the first half, before Kent State pulled ahead by seven, on a jumper by guard Eric Haut. Haut had 14 first half points, and the Golden Flashes led 36-29 at the break.

In the second half, senior forward Keion Henderson, seeing his first action of the season, sparked the Mastodon offense with a three pointer and a short jumper, to draw IPFW to within two.

Kent State increased their lead to seven again on three from Haut (he finished with a game and career high 23).

But, the Mastodons battled and clawed back to take a two point lead with :03 left on the clock, on a little runner by Collins, who finished with a team high 22 points.

That is where the dream turned into a nightmare. KSU got the ball in, pushed it past mid court, and Haynes squared up and let it fly. The shot ripped through with 1.1 seconds on the clock.

With no timeouts left on either side, IPFW hoisted a desperation three as the buzzer sounded, but it fell well short.

With the win, the defending MAC East Division Champions improved to 2-0.

The Mastodons, who fall to 0-2, got a great game from freshman guard Beau Bauer who finished with 19 points (including six triples).

IPFW now goes on their West Coast swing. They will play at Oregon State on Saturday (11/29) and Washington State (12/1) before heading to Ames, Iowa to take part in the Iowa State tournament on Dec. 5th and 6th.
