Cold Shooting Dooms Mastodons

Fort Wayne, IN- The Toledo Rockets took advantage of an off shooting night by IPFW to drop the Mastodons, on Homecoming night, 71-53 at the Memorial Coliseum.

The 'Dons, who earlier in the day hosted ESPN's Dick Vitale, got out of the gate early on a David Simon (Jr/C/Vernon Hills, IL) slam and a Jim Kessenich (Sr/F/Pewaukee, WI) three pointer, but unfortunately after that, the 'Dons shooting touch went south.

IPFW managed only 35 percent from the field, and an even more telling statistic was a very uncharacteristic 4-26 from behind the arc.

The Mastodons, who trailed by 12 at the half, cut the Rockets lead to just eight in the second half, but baskets by Keith Triplett and Justin Ingram pushed the lead back to double figures for good.

Simon led the Mastodons in scoring with 17 points. He was the only 'Don in double figures.

Triplett tied Simon for game high honors with 17 points of his own.

IPFW will have a chance to quickly shake off the rust, hosting Kent State, Tuesday night (11/25) in the second half of a men's/women's double header. The IPFW women will host Ball State at 6pm, with the men following at approximately 8pm.
