Press Release MARCH
1, 2004 Jaguars Outlast IPFW Fort Wayne, IN- When they are at the Memorial Coliseum, the IPFW Mastodons have played even with just about every team that has stepped on the floor. Unfortunately this squad has found it tough to win many of those close games. Monday night’s season finale against IUPUI proved to be another nail biter, but in the end, the Jaguars had just enough to hold off the Mastodons, 68-65. The two teams battled to six ties in the first half, and it looked like the half would end knotted at 31, but junior guard Akeem Clark launched a 30 foot three-pointer that ripped through the net. It gave IUPUI a 34-31 lead. The second half saw five ties, but the Jaguars (19-10) opened up an eight point lead with just under four minutes left on a jumper by Matt Crenshaw. The Mastodons clawed back to one, on a triple from freshman guard Beau Bauer, but a pair of free throws from Odel Bradley with seven seconds left gave IUPUI the victory. On senior night, it was senior forward Keion Henderson sharing team-high honors with 15 points. Junior center David Simon also tossed in 15 points while hauling down 16 rebounds. Simon finished a stellar 2003-04 season with 14 double-doubles. Senior forward Jim Kessenich and Bauer each added twelve. Bradley was game-high for the Jags with 28 points, ten coming from the charity stripe. That was the biggest deficiency for IPFW on the night. They shot only 50-percent at the line, while IUPUI shot 90-percent. The Mastodons finish the season with a mark of 3-25. ~Dons~ |
