Press Release FEBRUARY
25, 2004 Simon Has Career Night in Loss to OU Rochester, MI - Junior center David Simon continues to make noise in an off year for IPFW. The 'Dons big man tossed in a career-high 33 points in IPFW's 88-77 loss to Oakland University, Wednesday night in Rochester, Michigan. IPFW had trouble taking care of the ball in the first half (10 turnovers) and fell behind 44-26 at the intermission. In the second half, the Grizzlies looked like they had it on cruise control, before the Mastodons made a strong run. Leading by 26 points, senior wingman Keion Henderson (Gary, IN) hit three treys to spark a run that cut the Oakland lead to 12 with just over four minutes to play. Unfortunately for IPFW, Mike Helms (OU's leading scorer with 25 points) hit a couple of buckets to give the Grizzlies a comfortable cushion the rest of the way. Simon again was a dominant force in the middle. The third best player in the Nation (according to cbssportsline.com) got over half of his points on eight dunks. He also hauled down 14 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season. Henderson, finishing his career at IPFW in style, added 19 points for the game. With the win, Oakland improves to 12-16. IPFW, who outscored the Grizzlies 51-44 in the second half, falls to 3-23. The Mastodons play their final road game of the season on Saturday (2/28) at Valparaiso. Tipoff is 7pm.
Note: Simon's previous career high of 28 pts. came against Tri-State on 1/19/04.
