Collins’ 24 Too Much for Bowling Green

Fort Wayne, IN- They finally put it all together. The IPFW men’s basketball team got balanced scoring and solid defense in topping Bowling Green, 81-75 Wednesday night at the Memorial Coliseum.

The Falcons and ‘Dons battled bucket-for-bucket in the first half, with BGSU taking a five-point lead at the half, 42-37.

In the second half, the Mastodons grabbed the lead at the 14-minute mark, and never looked back.

However, the Falcons would not go quietly.

IPFW led by twelve with four minutes left, when BGSU came storming back. A layup by Ron Lewis cut the lead to only three with 1:37 to go.

With two-seconds left, and the ‘Dons up three, Lewis’ three-point attempt drew nothing but air, prompting a tirade from Bowling Green head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich was assessed a technical foul, his second of the game, and he was ejected.

The ‘Dons hit their foul shots to seal the victory.

Junior guard Terry Collins (Fort Wayne, IN) led IPFW with 24 points. David Simon (Jr/C/Vernon Hills, IL) finished with sixteen, Ric Wyand (Jr/F/Indianapolis, IN) chipped in fifteen, and freshman guard Beau Bauer (Walton, IN) had ten.

Lewis led all scorers with 33 points.

IPFW will return to action on Saturday night (12/13), hosting Morehead State at 7pm.
