Press Release MAY
16, 2005 Men's Basketball Gets Two More Commitments Fort Wayne, IN– IPFW head men's basketball coach Dane Fife has announced the signings of two more players to the Mastodons' program. Demetrius Johnson will transfer from Kent State University and be eligible for play in the 2006-07 season. Johnson, a 6-4 guard from Cleveland, Ohio, played in 19 games for the Golden Flashes last season, starting one. Johnson averaged 2.0 ppg and 1.45 rpg, playing behind DeAndre Haynes and Armon Gates. At Warrensville Heights High School, Johnson averaged 34.1 points and nine rebounds a game. He led the state in scoring his senior season. He also averaged 21.1 points and 11 boards his junior season. He helped Warrensville to a state championship in 2000, a runner-up position in 2001, and three district championships. "Demetrius will bring leadership and scoring punch to IPFW," Fife said. "He's a good athlete that can play all three positions on the perimeter. He's been well coached and understands what it takes to be successful at this level." Johnson will have two years of eligibility. IPFW has also inked 6-11/225lb post player Mohamed Esseghir from Hillsborough (FL) Community College. At Hillsborough, Esseghir helped the Hawks to an overall record of 19-13. He played his high school ball at the IMG Academy in Florida. "We needed to add size and athleticism in the post, and Mohamed will bring both to IPFW," Fife added. "Mohamed works hard both on the court and in the classroom, and will help us as we continue to build our program. Esseghir will also have two years of eligibility at IPFW.
