Press Release FEBRUARY
21,
2005 Bauer’s 21 Leads IPFW past Texas A&M Corpus Christi Fort Wayne, IN– IPFW sophomore guard Beau Bauer broke out of his shooting slump in a big way, on Monday night at the Memorial Coliseum. Bauer ripped the cords for 21 points, and senior center David Simon played “lock-down” on defense, to lead IPFW past Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 77-69. The Islanders, who were coming off a rout of Utah Valley State, grabbed an early six point lead on the ‘Dons, but at the nine-minute mark of the first half, freshman forward Pete Campbell’s triple gave IPFW a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Bauer and Campbell drilled 3 three-pointers each in the first half, to give IPFW a 39-36 lead at the half. Sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers set the tone for the rest of the game on the opening play of the second half. Off a miss by Simon, Carouthers flew down the lane and slammed home a wind-mill jam, off the rebound, that brought the Memorial Coliseum crowd out of their seats. And while Bauer, Campbell and Carouthers continued to fill it up, Simon controlled the paint. Simon got Islander forward Corey Lamkin in foul trouble, and kept the rest of the Corpus Christi interior game shut down. Simon finished with four blocks and eight rebounds, to go along with eight points. IPFW did, however, make it interesting. With under three minutes,
the ‘Dons had trouble making their foul shots. They missed six freebies
in a span of two minutes, but it didn’t cost them. Campbell and Carouthers
managed to hit IPFW’s final six from the line to seal the win.
