Press Release JULY
20, 2005 Former CMU Guard Nelson Transfers to IPFW
Fort Wayne, IN– Central Michigan shooting guard Kevin Nelson has decided to play his final season of collegiate basketball at IPFW. Nelson (6-3/180), who was named 2005 All-MAC Honorable Mention, led the Chippewas in scoring at 17.0 points per game. He has hit 153 three-pointers in the past two seasons, and was 16th in the Nation in '05 with an average of 3.12 triples a contest. "I've known of Kevin since he was in high school, and when he became available, it was an easy decision to bring him aboard," said IPFW head men's basketball coach Dane Fife. "He has played for two coaches, in Jay Smith and Kurt Keener, that I have tremendous respect for. I am excited to have the opportunity to further Kevin's career. He is a special player, but he will have to earn his time here just like everyone else." Nelson, who was voted team MVP by his Chippewa teammates last season, will have to sit out the '05-'06 season under NCAA transfer rules. He will be eligible for play in 2006-07.
