Press Release MAY
10, 2005 CBSsportsline.com Gives IPFW an "A" Fort Wayne, IN– The final grades are in, and according to cbssportsline.com, out of the 37 coaching changes in Division I basketball, IPFW passed the hiring test with flying colors. The Internet arm of CBS Sports has graded out the changes made so far in college basketball, and the hiring of Dane Fife to lead the Mastodons was given high praise. According to the web site: Few schools can afford to gamble on a 25-year-old with negligible coaching experience. Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne is one of those schools. And Dane Fife is worth the gamble. He has enormous name recognition in Indiana, having led the Hoosiers to the 2002 Final Four. He's the youngest head coach in Division I, but it's not like older coaches were getting it done there. Other schools receiving straight A's were Purdue (Matt Painter), Virginia (Dave Leitao), Coastal Carolina (Buzz Peterson), Florida Atlantic (Matt Doherty), New Mexico State (Reggie Theus), UMASS (Travis Ford), and Tennessee (Bruce Pearl) Schools receiving a "B" included UNC-Greensboro, who re-hired former head coach, and IPFW finalist Mike Dement.
