Press Release FEBRUARY
10,
2005 Simon Dominates/IPFW Snaps Losing Streak Fort Wayne, IN –David Simon was option number one…and there wasn’t much Northern Colorado could do. The senior center scored 27 points, in IPFW’s 71-63 win over the Bears at the Memorial Coliseum on Thursday night. Simon dominated on offense, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked three shots. In a close first half, IPFW held the lead until the 6:15 mark. Bear’s center Kirk Archibeque hit a basket, and assisted on a three-pointer, to give UNCO a four-point half-time lead (29-25). In the second half, the Bears would lead by as many as seven (on four occasions) until the Mastodons dug in and began their comeback. A jumper by sophomore guard Quintin Carouthers tied the game at 61-all. Then a triple from freshman Pete Campbell gave IPFW a lead they would not relinquish. Carouthers went to the line and six free-throws down the stretch to ice the game and snap the ‘Dons six game losing streak. Simon’s 27-point effort was game-high. Carouthers added a season-high 19 points, and Campbell added 11, all in the second half. With the win, IPFW improves to 5-19, while Northern Colorado falls to 6-18. IPFW will return to action on Wednesday (2/16) making the trip to St. Louis to take on the Billikens. Game time is 7pm.
