Research Interests
My first area of interest is as an experimentalist characterizing ceramic phosphor materials. I explore the electronic states of dopant ions and their interactions with the host lattice and other nearby dopant ions. This work is intended to improve understanding of energy transfer mechanisms between these states in the hopes of developing higher efficiency lighting as well as many other display applications. My second area of interest involves a wider look into the mechanisms of energy efficiency as it pertains to the applied world of common day human activity, for example housing, lighting, heating water. I have taught a course focusing on a discussion of the various energy concepts that a homeowner might face as well as those areas of energy awareness as they pertain to civic engagement. In addition, I am in the process of writing a text book on the issues of sustainable energy practices from a physics point of view.
