Meeting Notes for October 7, 2003
Present: Clark Butler, Ron Duchovic, Barry Kanpol, Glenda Moss, Susan Alderman, Laurie Corbin, Kathy O’Connell, Jeanette Clausen, Marc Lipman, James Lutz, Andy Downs, Mike Wolf, Edna Neal, Judie Violette, Geri Miller, Susan Hannah, Quinton Dixie

Updates: Political Science Teach-In: Subject is Iraq; scheduled for October 21, noon in Walb 222-026.

Inventory: Corbin presented a draft for discussion. Members suggested broadening the wording and adding questions to be addressed to student organizations. Laurie will provide a new draft for review at the next meeting.

ADP Web Pages: Hannah and Corbin reported that the project is underway.

National Progress Report. Hannah reported that she had forwarded a report to AASCU about our work so far. We seem to be about on track with other ADP member institutions across the country.

NYTimes Initiative: Violette is exploring several options for daily online access.

Nov. 12-13 Kokomo Conference:

Hancock, Miller, Hannah, and Ashton will be representing the group at this two-day conference for all Indiana schools participating in the ADP project.

Defining Civic Education:

The group reviewed the summary of the “Dimensions of Civic Education” developed at the 9/23 meeting. After some discussion, the consensus was to work from a slightly edited version of the summary as it appeared in the 9/23 minutes. (See attached).

ADP Mission Statement:

Miller and Downs distributed materials on the strategic planning process. They then led a discussion of possible ADP mission statements. Miller and Downs will prepare a summary of the ideas for finalization at our next meeting.

Next Steps: The Steering Committee will finalize our definition, our mission statement and move on to develop a plan for realizing that mission at our next meeting on
