Meeting with us on the day news of IPFW's elimination of several departments was breaking, Long said he wasn’t aware of what had happened despite his involvement in the larger effort to reshape IPFW. But he stood by his efforts to initiate a review of the university's future. The thinking was, "let's push them to the next level," he said, and encourage IU and Purdue to invest in programs that could help northeast Indiana grow.
